If you are in the market for a non-iPhone cellphone that has the features/look of an iPhone, then look no further than this iPhone clone. Unlike the Instinct, this cellphone could very well be the real iPhone killer. According to Electronista, the device could be running a hacked version of Windows Mobile, however, it mimics most of the iPhone’s features, right down to the music player. Either way, it’s still fun to watch, and to see how long Apple takes to sue them.

TapeDeck updated to 1.1, adds YouTube export

Posted by admin 15 August, 2008 (0) Comment

tape deck appMore audio news on the Mac today: the undeniably cute, surprisingly functional TapeDeck recording app (yes, it looks exactly like a cassette deck, and works pretty much the same way) has been updated to version 1.1. The headline features in this version are improved export capability (to most QuickTime-supported audio formats, including MP3 and AIFF), the option to record high-quality at 320kbps, and built-in YouTube exporting, complete with a charming tape-playing video.

TapeDeck’s simplicity, and the very easy (possibly too easy) YouTube export, are bound to have plenty of Mac users releasing their quick & dirty audio recordings to the world in short order. TapeDeck (Universal Binary) is $25 and a demo is available at the tapedeckapp.com site.

Video of the YouTube export in action after the jump.

Found Footage: Misleading iPhone ads?

slight kerfuffle has kicked up in the last few days about whether Apple’s iPhone 3G advertising is too misleading. 37Signals raised the complaint that a recent iPhone 3G ad (YouTube link) set up false expectations, as it shows an iPhone loading a web page, finding a location on Google Maps, and downloading an attachment at lightning speed. Now comes this nice side by side demonstration video as embedded above.

What do you think? Is this false advertising on Apple’s part, or should everyone just know that TV ads are always unrealistic?

Found Footage: ‘I Am Rich’ walk through

Apparently, eight people actually bought the famed “I Am Rich” iPhone application. If you weren’t rich stupid lucky enough to buy the app, or if you are merely curious what the fuss was all about — the above “guided tour” is for you.

I’ll admit, I’ve found this whole saga pretty unfunny thus far. Don’t misunderstand me, I get the joke, the whole thing has just struck me as easy and lacking any real point.

Call me puerile, but I had to laugh at this video. The line that got me, “notice how ‘deserve’ is fashionably [misspelled].” Classic. Thanks Neil!

iPhone 2.0 Tips: Safari Shows Embedded YouTube Clips

Posted by admin 16 July, 2008 (0) Comment

Much like the way Safari has handled Quicktime videos on former versions of the firmware, the new 2.0 release now allows you to see embedded YouTube content with your iPhone or iPod touch on Safari. Click and it hands off video duties to the YouTube player. Really, that’s better than watching it embedded, and makes the handheld Web browsing world that much closer to its desktop version.
