Mac 101: Folder shortcuts in the Finder
Another quick tip in our Mac 101 series for beginners: Some special folders on your computer have keyboard shortcuts that you can press to instantly navigate to that folder when using the Finder.
For example, to open your Applications folder, click on your desktop and use the shift (⇧) and command (⌘) keys to type ⇧ ⌘ A. Voilà! Your Appplications folder appeareth.
Other folders have shortcuts too:
- Your computer: ⇧ ⌘ C
- Your home folder: ⇧ ⌘ H
- Your desktop: ⇧ ⌘ D
- Computers on your local network: ⇧ ⌘ K
- Your Utilities folder: ⇧ ⌘ U
- Your iDisk: ⇧ ⌘ I
You can also bring up a dialog box to specify a path to a specific folder on your hard disk by typing ⇧ ⌘ G.

iPhone Gets a MacBook Air Keyboard Mod
You may disagree, but we think this MacBook Air keyboard mod for the iPhone looks super neat. The package installs directly from Installer.app and gives your on-screen board the black separated look that the standard MacBook and the MacBook Air both feature. It’s just cosmetic, and doesn’t affect your typing performance in any way—unless of course you type faster when you see black plastic. It also uninstalls without destroying your phone, which is a plus. Grab it now, but you might have to add this repository (http://planet-iphones.com/repository/) first.

SlimKey 2 keyboard stand adds USB hub
Macessity, makers of the LowKey stand we covered a while back, has released version 2 of their SlimKey keyboard stand adding a USB hub on the right side. Basically the SlimKey is a steel shelf designed to hide Apple’s slim keyboards under your iMac or LCD monitor so as to conserve desk space when you’re not typing. The newest version incorporates a 4-port powered USB 2.0 hub on the right rear for a mouse and other USB peripherals. Personally, I find this design rather more aesthetically pleasing than the LowKey which puts the USB hub in front.
The SlimKey V2 is available for pre-order $64.99 and will be shipping on July 21. They also still have the SlimKey version 1 without the USB hub for $39.99.
