iPhone Jailbreak Now QuickPwned: No Need for iTunes-Based Restore

Posted by admin 18 August, 2008 (0) Comment

News is just out of a new way to jailbreak your iPhone, and this time the tool is specifically designed to work “quickly and easily, without requiring a full restore.” Quickpwn has been released as a beta, intended to compliment the main PwnageTool. It works with iPhones and iPod’s running 2.0.1 firmware, and operates very quickly without needing iTunes to rebuild/restore your device afterwards. This beta version is basically feature-complete, but lacks a “funky UI” (they’re adding that soon) and is currently windows only (other OS’s are “coming soon”.) It’s available here. Keep your eyes open for a complete version (though remember that even though it’s development software, it’s apparently “impossible for this to permanently damage your device.”) [iPhone-Dev.org]

Brando’s Telescope Case Now For iPhone 3G-Owning Voyeurs Too

Posted by admin 18 August, 2008 (0) Comment

Until now to telescopic-zoom an image with your iPhone 3G involved a quick sprint in the general direction of your photo’s subject: But now Brando have a version of their telescope add-on for the phone. The lens is a 6x zoom bolt-on, and comes with a transparent mounting system/iPhone case much as before. It’s also still very awkward looking: You won’t be sneaking up to many curtains to peep unnoticed with this in your mitts. Available now for $19. [Brando]

Russian Mod Makes iPhone’s Rear-Side Apple Logo Glow

Posted by admin 15 August, 2008 (0) Comment

Saddened by the fact that the Apple logo on the rear-shell of the iPhone is just a dead, un-illuminated entity, a bunch of Russian modders have taken a dremel and soldering iron to one—or is it a replacement back shell? Either way, they brought the sexy (glow) back. Apparently “the battery doesn’t suffer a lot, you can adjust the glow level in Settings menu.” Hmmm. Are they hacking into the screen back-lighting circuit? If you’re not convinced by the photo: check out the video, it looks pretty real.

Apple’s Polish Joke: Polish iTunes Store Offers No Tunes

Posted by admin 8 August, 2008 (0) Comment

Apple just expanded the list of international iTunes stores on its website, adding countries such as Poland, Quatar and the Czech Republic. The problem? None of these countries can buy anything through the iTunes store. Rather, they’re just setting up the infrastructure so the residents of those countries can have access to iPhone Apps. What a sad, lonely iTunes store that must be. No music, no videos, no podcasts. Just Super Monkeyball and a few hundred to-do list apps. [iFun.de]
