Japanese Gov’t: iPod nano batteries caused fires

Posted by admin 19 August, 2008 (0) Comment

A brief report from Reuters this morning said Japan’s trade ministry claimed three fires had been caused by defectively hot iPod nano batteries.

Nobody was injured in the fires.

The government said in a statement that Apple had two other reported cases where people were burned by their iPod nanos. The defective nanos, they said, were sold between September 2005 and September 2006.

Japan’s quasi-governmental product safety commission will investigate the incidents with Apple’s cooperation, the trade ministry said. [yahoo]

Thanks to MiGhtyDocs (iTunes link), you are now free to roam about the office to view your Docs on the go. You can’t edit and you can’t view spreadsheets or presentations, but MiGhtyDocs does cache your documents for offline viewing.

Boston Acoustics reveals Horizon i-DS2 iPod boombox

Posted by admin 18 August, 2008 (0) Comment

It only takes a glance to realize that Boston Acoustics’ Horizon i-DS2 iPod boombox is merely a cleaned up version of the knobby Duo-i, but we must say, the new look is pretty sleek. Built to function with any dock-connecting iPod, this 60-watt speaker system includes twin 3.5-inch full-range drivers, a composite video output, USB connector and an auxiliary input for plugging in other DAPs / PMPs. The unit itself arrives in glossy white or glossy black, though users with an itch to customize can select from a variety of P.O.P. metal grilles. On paper, the unit isn’t too shabby, but the $179.99 price tag is somewhat of a drag.

iPhone 101: Restore your homescreen icons

Posted by admin 18 August, 2008 (0) Comment

Rearranging the icons on the home screen of your iPhone is a part of the customization fun that Apple built in. However, if you rearranged your icons and want them back to factory specifications, it is as easy as a simple tap. Just navigate to Settings > General > Reset. Once there, select the “Reset Home Screen Layout” button. A dialog will pop-up asking for a confirmation.

Once you return to the home screen, you will notice that all the icons are placed just like they were when you first turned on your iPhone! Third-party applications’ icons will follow the default applications.
